On the 17th September I somehow persuaded James to drive my to Kensington to ‘pop’ into Harvey Nichols and look at the new Fenty Beauty counter. Obviously I should have realised there would have been a queue. I walked passed the queue and wasn’t sure if I wanted to wait in line. After wandering around Harrods for a while we walked back past Harvey Nichols and James asked me if I wanted to wait, I said yes! We ended up being in line for an hour and a half, James is a bloody trooper and didn’t complain at all and just waited with me and listened to how excited I was about all the makeup.
When we finally got inside I was taken into the beauty lounge by one of the makeup artists, currently there are 2 Fenty Beauty counters in Harvey Nichols. I’m not sure if it’s going to stay that way. The girl who served me was lovely, she colour matched me to my foundation and talked me through the products. Even though they were super busy I didn’t feel rushed and she took her time asking me questions and helping me out. £138 later I left Harvey Nichols with my Fenty Beauty products in tow!
For those of you who may not know Fenty Beauty is Rihanna’s makeup line. For a brand that has just launched I was shocked to see that she had brought out 40 shades to cover ALL skintones. The collection focuses on skin which I think is great. I had high hopes because Rihanna’s skin always looks amazing and flawless.
Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer £24
A shine-stopping, pore-diffusing primer that smooths the way for better foundation application and longer wear with an instant retouch effect.
Generally, I’m not a primer girl. I’ll occasionally use them but I don’t have a firm favourite..well I do now! This primer is so moisturising and feels great on my skin. My skins combination and it really hydrates the dry parts of my face. I don’t have a problem with pores so I’m not sure if it is pore-diffusing but it does make everything appear smoother. The thing that has made me fall in love with this primer is the fact it keeps my foundation on all day. Never in my life have I had a foundation stick around, normally it’s all gone by lunchtime. Obviously, this could be down to the foundation too but I defiantly think this primer plays a huge part. The packaging is stunning and feels luxurious, I’m happy to display this in my collection. I love the frosted glass with the nude lid, very dreamy!
Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation shade 110 £26
For very fair skin with cool undertones.
The ultimate photo filt’r in 40 boundary-breaking shades.
A soft matte, long-wear foundation with buildable, medium to full coverage.
As a rule, I do not wear matte foundations. I always found that they clung to dry patches and didn’t make my skin look nice. Picking this one up was definitely a risk as I wasn’t sure if it was going to work for me. First thing is that Fenty Beauty is the first makeup brand where I’m not the palest shade. Normally all foundations are a little too dark for me. The product applies beautifully to the skin and blends like a dream, be warned it is very watery though and tends to run all over my hand! Even though this foundation is matte is still leaves my skin looking glowy. I’ve actually found that applying this foundation with a dry beauty sponge and adding a few drops of oil is the best way to go for me. This one is a firm favourite and I can see myself repurchasing this one.
Match Stix Trio £46
Linen – Cool
Amber – Cool Contour
Starstruck – Iced-Out Pearl
Mix, match and multiply. Limitless ways to play.
A magnetised trio of long-wear, light-as-air makeup sticks curated by skin tone, with two Match Stix MATTE Skinsticks to conceal and contour, and one Match Stix SHIMMER Skinstick to highlight.
When I was looking at the Fenty Beauty range these were at the top of my wish list. I just loved the look of the cream contour shade. The concealer shade is very close to my natural skin tone so it works well all over the face and under the eyes. I’ve never really been one to use a brightening shade under my eyes so this is perfect. Linen is definitely the hardest out of the three to blend and takes a bit longer but that doesn’t bother me as I love the end result. Amber is my perfect contour shade it’s the perfect amount of ‘cool’. It’s super creamy and blends really easy and gives a natural contour which is what I go for. I hate the look on me of a harsh contour, it just looks weird. When I first used Starstruck I wasn’t a fan, it felt quite rough and hard to work with. Now that I’ve used it a lot it works really well. The shade works great for me and leaves a nice subtle glow. For me, this is the perfect product to use under powder highlight.
All three of these cream products last all day on my skin. They’re very natural which is perfect for me. If you are looking for something which a bit more oomf these may not be for you. This kit is such good value for money as you basically get a stix free.
Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter Duo £26
Lightning Dust – Soft Pearlescent Sheen
Fire Crystal – Supercharged Pearlescent Shimmer
Glow with the flow: killer radiance for face and eyes.
Weightless, long-wear cream-powder hybrid highlighters that range from subtle day glow to insanely supercharged – in solos and expertly paired duos.
There is quite a few highlighter options in the range and the most talked about has to be Trophy Wife. Picking that up would have been a waste of money has it would have never suited my skin. I decided to pick up the palest shade in the duos and I’m so happy I did. You get the two shades, one if a lot softer than the other. Lightning dust has been the one I used to highlight my forehead and brow bone. You can tell something is there but it isn’t crazy obvious that you have used a highlight. Fire Crystal is the one I use everywhere else. This one is a definite highlighter and gives me the perfect highlighted look I’m after. These powders are so creamy and just seem to melt into the skin. Paired with my matchsix highlighter they work great. Again, this is a product that is still hanging around at the end of the day when I go to take my makeup off.
Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer £16
Explosive shine that feels as good as it looks.
The ultimate, gotta-have-it lip gloss with explosive shine that feels as good as it looks – in one universal rose nude shade.
The final product I picked up was the universal lipgloss. The fact that this is said to suit every skin tone amazed me. On me, this is a very nude gloss which makes my lips look plump and juicy. The smell of this gloss is AMAZING if I could I would probably eat it. Obviously, this doesn’t stick around long because it’s a lip gloss. It has a huge applicator which makes it really easy to apply. It is quite a sticky formula but I can live with that. This may be my perfect gloss and I’m so happy to have it.
Overall I’m so impressed with the products I purchased. There isn’t one thing where I’m on the fence about or I don’t like which for a brand that’s just launched it’s amazing. I think Rihanna has done an amazing job with this range and I’m looking forward to seeing what else she launches. There are a few other things on my Fenty wish-list that I want to pick up.
Have you tried Fenty Beauty? What is your favourite product?
PS: Sorry that some of the photos aren’t super clear. Taking pictures this time of year is an absolute nightmare.
